Moorpark College's women's volleyball team earned a No. 8 national ranking and its men's cross country squad won two straight invitationals to open the fall 2026 season.

The volleyball team, coached by Adam Black, started the year with four consecutive wins and stood at 5-3 before opening Western State Conference play, according to the college's athletics department. The No. 8 ranking came in the Sept. 7 California Community College Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (3C2AWVCA) poll, the most recent confirmed poll as of Sept. 15.

Sophomore Kaylin Currie has driven the early success. She recorded four triple-doubles and reached double-figure kills in all but one match through the first eight games.

The Raiders opened Aug. 28 with a 3-2 victory at Raider Pavilion. The volleyball program finished as WSC runner-up in 2025-26.

On the trails, the men's cross country team picked up where it left off after winning its 15th WSC title last fall. The Raiders won the Tuck Mason Pirate Invitational at Ventura College on Aug. 28, then took the team title again at the WSC Preview meet on Sept. 11 at Edward Vincent Jr. Park in Inglewood.

A freshman class powered the Sept. 11 result. Hunter Bennett placed third in the four-mile race in 22:46.79. Three teammates joined him in the top 10: Joaquin Ortega-Tomaselli (22:55.5), Uriel Texis (23:29.32) and Lucas Gary (23:31.63).

All four are freshmen.

Trent Williams also competed individually at the Pepperdine Waves Invitational on Sept. 4, placing 10th in the 6K in 19:39.8.

The women's cross country team showed its own depth. Reece Trice placed 12th at the Pepperdine Waves Invitational on Sept. 4 with a time of 14:58.0, finishing as the first junior college runner in a field that included NCAA Division I athletes. At the WSC Preview, Ava Sanders placed seventh (22:55.76) and Nayelle Flores placed 12th (23:25.89) as the team finished fifth. The women placed fourth at the Tuck Mason Pirate Invitational on Aug. 28.

The fall results build on a dominant 2025-26 for Moorpark athletics. The Raiders won the inaugural WSC Commissioner's Cup, earning five conference titles and finishing with 8.69 points, well ahead of second-place Santa Barbara at 6.82.
