Adolfo Camarillo High School is looking for JV boys basketball teams to fill its Holiday Hoops Tournament over winter break.
The Scorpions' boys basketball program posted the open call on X on Monday, Oct. 12, listing four game dates: Saturday, Dec. 26, Monday, Dec. 28, Tuesday, Dec. 29 and Wednesday, Dec. 30. The post did not specify how many teams the tournament needs, what format it will follow or where games will be played. No registration deadline was listed.
The program directed interested coaches to email [email protected]. That address belongs to Brendan Garrett, who has served as head boys basketball coach at Camarillo since May 2019, according to the program's 2023-24 media guide. Garrett also teaches Social Science and AVID on campus.
Before arriving at Camarillo, Garrett spent five seasons as a top assistant at California Lutheran University and served as head coach at Hueneme High School from 2008 to 2012, the media guide states.
The tournament comes after a banner JV season for the Scorpions. The program announced on Feb. 4 that its JV team won the Coastal Canyon League championship in 2025-26, finishing with a 21-6 record. Coaches Shaun York and Andy Rosales led that squad.
Camarillo's varsity program has been on a postseason run of its own. The Scorpions claimed the 2025 Coastal Canyon League title and reached the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA quarterfinals in both 2024 and 2025, according to the program's X profile.
VCS Preps, the Ventura County Star's high school sports account, retweeted the tournament announcement the same day.
Coaches or athletic directors with JV programs looking for December games can reach Garrett at [email protected].
