Moorpark College will debut a new outdoor amphitheater with a free concert on Saturday, Oct. 10, marking the start of the college's 60th-anniversary celebration year.

The event, called "Moorpark College Serenades: The Premiere," runs from 4 to 6 p.m. on the Moorpark campus. Three musical acts will perform against the backdrop of the Santa Susana Mountains: Lynnzee Fraye, playing pop, R&B and folk; Wax Owls, performing indie and folk; and Kabwasa, blending R&B, soul and funk.

The concert is a collaboration with Sofar Sounds, a global live-music organization known for intimate pop-up performances. It is also the community's first look at The Stage at Moorpark College, a new temporary outdoor amphitheater the college says will host future outdoor gatherings and performances.

Moorpark College and the Moorpark College Foundation announced the event as the opening of a yearlong 60th-anniversary celebration. The college, part of the Ventura County Community College District, is located at 7075 Campus Road in Moorpark.
