Students from four Moorpark Unified campuses performed at Sabor Latino, a celebration of Latino heritage organized by Moorpark High School's Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program on Friday, Sept. 25.
The lineup included performers from Mountain Meadows 21st Century Learning Academy, Arroyo West Active Learning Academy, Chaparral Middle School and the Moorpark High dance team, the Moorpark Acorn reported.
AVID is a national college and career readiness program that focuses on students traditionally underrepresented in higher education. It operates in more than 7,400 schools nationwide, according to the AVID Center.
The event is not new to the campus. Moorpark High's official X account promoted a Sabor Latino at the school's Performing Arts Center in March 2023. Moorpark Unified also described a 2024 edition of the event as drawing families for food, dancing and music.
Sabor Latino fell during National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.
