The Oxnard Union High School District Board of Trustees will vote Wednesday, Oct. 14, on whether to extend ACE Charter High School's charter for another five years.
The Camarillo school at 570 Airport Way serves 269 students in grades 9 through 12, according to the California Department of Education. District administration is recommending the board approve the renewal, which would cover July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2032, according to the Oct. 14 board agenda.
ACE offers four-year pathway programs in architecture, construction, engineering and computer programming. The school is also an authorized International Baccalaureate World School for the Career-Related Programme, according to its website. About 57% of its 12th-graders took at least one IB exam, and 36% scored a 4 or higher, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2026-2027 rankings, which draw on data from recent academic years.
The school's student body is approximately 69.5% Hispanic and 36% economically disadvantaged, U.S. News reported. Its graduation rate stands at 84%, which the publication described as well below the state median. The school has nine full-time equivalent teachers and a 30-to-1 student-teacher ratio.
Principal John Middleton leads the campus. ACE receives its special education services through the Oxnard Union High School District, according to the school's enrollment documentation.
The renewal has moved through several board meetings. Trustees accepted ACE's renewal petition presentation on Aug. 12, then heard a staff presentation and held a board discussion on Sept. 16. The Oct. 14 meeting includes both a public hearing on the renewal and the formal vote.
Under California Education Code Section 47607, a five-year renewal may be granted when a charter school does not qualify for the highest performance tier but also does not meet criteria for presumptive denial, according to the California Department of Education. The board must consider schoolwide performance and subgroup results on the California School Dashboard, giving greater weight to academic measures.
The board meeting begins with a closed session at 5 p.m. and open session at 7 p.m. at the District Office Board Room, 1800 Solar Drive, Oxnard. Residents who want to speak on the charter renewal must complete a speaker card and will have three minutes to address the board.
