Moorpark City Transit riders can hop on any bus or book an MCT On Demand trip for free Wednesday, Oct. 7, as part of California Clean Air Day.
No ticket or pass is needed. Drivers will let all riders board at no charge on the fixed-route bus, which runs from 6 a.m. to 6:55 p.m., and on rides booked through the MCT On Demand mobile app. The app serves more than 100 pickup and drop-off locations across Moorpark, where a standard trip normally costs $1 per person.
The free rides come as gas prices pinch drivers across the state. The statewide average for a gallon of regular gasoline reached $6.39 the week of Oct. 7, up more than $1.70 from a year ago, according to AAA.
The promotion extends well beyond Moorpark. Nine Ventura County transit operators are waiving fares Wednesday under the Ventura County Transportation Commission's Free Fare Days Program. Camarillo Area Transit and its dial-a-ride service are participating, along with Gold Coast Transit District, Simi Valley Transit, Thousand Oaks Transit, Ojai Trolley, Kanan Shuttle, Valley Express and VCTC Intercity Transit Service.
The City of Moorpark announced the promotion in a post on X on Tuesday, Oct. 6. California Clean Air Day is an annual statewide initiative encouraging residents to reduce air pollution. Transportation remains a major source of greenhouse gas emissions in California.
Three more free-fare days are scheduled under the VCTC program: Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11; Transit Equity Day on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2027; and Earth Day on Thursday, April 22, 2027. Riders with questions can call 1-800-438-1112 or visit goventura.org.
