Moorpark residents can haul up to two loads of household waste to the Simi Valley Landfill at no charge on Sunday, Sept. 20.
It is the last chance in 2026.
The free disposal window runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center, 2801 N. Madera Road, Simi Valley. Sept. 20 is the second and final Free Landfill Day the city is offering Moorpark residents this year, according to a schedule published by Waste Management, the city's residential waste hauler.
The City of Moorpark announced the event on its official X account on Monday, Sept. 14.
What to bring: A driver's license or utility bill proving Moorpark residency. All loads are subject to inspection at the gate.
What's accepted: General household waste and up to five passenger or pickup truck tires per visit. Commercial or tractor tires are charged at the standard gate rate.
What's not accepted: Electronic waste, including TVs, computers and cell phones. Household hazardous waste, including batteries, paint, chemicals, fluorescent tubes and liquids. Contractor and commercial vehicles are charged standard rates.
Bonus: free compost. The Sept. 20 date also includes a free compost giveaway, first come, first served, while supplies last. Bring your own shovel and containers.
Residents of unincorporated Home Acres, Lexington Hills and Santa Rosa Valley are also eligible to participate on Moorpark's designated dates.
The landfill is normally closed on Sundays. It opens on the third Sunday of each month for designated free days serving residents of Moorpark, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village.
