A Moorpark musician who fronts the indie band Los Retros faces four felony counts of unlawful acts with a child under 10.
Maurisio "Mauri" Tapia, 26, was charged Oct. 12 in Ventura County Superior Court, the Ventura County Star reported. He did not enter a plea.
Tapia also faces special allegations that the victim was vulnerable and that he took advantage of a position of trust, according to court records cited by the Star. If found guilty, such allegations can lead to a harsher sentence.
The Ventura County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
Arrest and bail
Tapia was arrested Oct. 8 and booked into Ventura County jail the following day with bail set at $3 million, according to jail records. He is scheduled to return to court Thursday, Oct. 22.
Band and label response
Los Retros, founded in 2016 by the Oxnard native, had about 2.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify as of Oct. 15, according to Spotify charts cited by the Star. The band played at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio in 2026.
Los Retros had been scheduled to perform at the Stones Throw 30 music festival Friday, Oct. 16. The organizer removed the band, citing "unforeseen circumstances" in an Instagram post.
Stones Throw Records, the band's label, released a statement on its Instagram page Oct. 15 acknowledging the allegations against Tapia. "In light of this information, we are taking steps to dissociate ourselves from Tapia and his work," the label said.
